The first in-depth study of this aspect of Grosse’s work, the publication serves both as a reference book and as a critical exploration of the artist’s experiments with color and paint. Katharina Grosse Studio Paintings, 1988–2022 brings together 160 full-color plates and 38 supplemental images documenting the artist’s career-long studio practice. These issues drive not only the artist’s dramatically large in situ works-painted across rooms, buildings, environments, and other surfaces in public places-but also her studio paintings, which have played an equally central role in her practice from the start. ![]() Through an open-ended creative process in which painting takes on the form of a performance, color embodies movement, making its emotional potential tangible.
